On July 26, 2022, DA Elizabeth Hirz held a joint press conference to announce that Jeremy Clarke Brock (55) of Austin, Texas, has been arrested on charges of homicide, burglary, robbery, and other related charges, for the murder of Helen Vogt in July 1988. Recent technological advancements in the analysis of DNA have allowed for evidence collected during the original investigation to be re-analyzed, which resulted in Brock’s DNA being found at the scene. This evidence, in conjunction with the evidence obtained during the original investigation, led to the arrest and charging of Brock.

Brock was taken into custody on July 25, 2022 by co-affiants Erie Police Detective Sergeant Craig Stoker and Trooper Todd Giliberto, of the Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Investigation Assessment Unit, with the aid of the Austin Police Department, Marshall Task Force, and the Austin Police Department Homicide Unit. Special thanks goes to all of the tireless work and commitment of all of the individuals, including those on the original and current investigative teams, who worked on this case over the last 34 years.
